Wheaton Precious Metals recognizes H2nanO as a top 3 innovator in their Future of Mining challenge.
Wheaton Precious Metals’ 2026 Future of Mining Challenge focused on finding innovative, scalable technologies that support sustainable water management in mining. The challenge considered innovations from around the world towards potential for water use reduction, increased water efficiency, and tailings and wastewater management.
H2nanO was selected as a finalist by a panel of industry expert judges and Wheaton’s leadership team as one of three stand-out innovators in water technology for mining. Zac Young and Jeff Martin pitched for H2nanO at Wheaton’s showcase event at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in March 2026. The event highlighted the three finalists as emerging leaders in the next generation of improved water management in mining operations among a competitive field of applicants.
H2nanO worked in partnership with 1823 Water for the Future of Mining challenge submission, presenting our practical and field-ready SolarPass technology backed by the expertise and field experience of 1823 Water working with metals mining operations in Canada and abroad. The team used the Future of Mining event and PDAC as a launchpad towards first-of-a-kind deployment of SolarPass into metals mining operations. SolarPass has potential as a new strategy for managing complex mine waters with a passive, low-energy oxidation process for treatment of compounds including ammonia, cyanide, thiosalts, and processing aids, in addition to other emerging contaminants in mine operation and closure.
